Soft Armor
2019

Being intimate with another person is a deeply personal experience. In our most tender, vulnerable state, we hope to be cherished by our partners. We are vulnerable, and we want to feel that that is okay, that we can let our guard down. To experience such love and intimacy is a liberating, uplifting feeling. It can happen at times though that at our most vulnerable we also hold the potential for being the most hurt.

Soft Armor is a veil of hundreds of concrete disks to be worn by a bride on her wedding day. When worn, the veil resembles a traditional veil embellished with beadwork. However, the Soft Armor veil is really a personal map of the surface of the bride's skin, tracking intimate sensitivities. We all have areas on our bodies most sensitive to kiss or caress, and areas of insecurity that we would rather hide. The Soft Armor veil acts as both a shielding and revealing device. By concealing areas with more densely clustered disks, and highlighting and revealing others, the bride at once shows her vulnerabilities, sensitivities and desires. When laid flat, the veil maps the front, back and sides of the body. Because each person has different desires and insecurities, no two veils would be alike, each unique in their own way like the woman who wears it. As its name suggests, Soft Armor is meant to be permeable, guiding your partner to soothe your insecurities and indulge your desires.
